We want to express our appreciation to the technical and facility teams behind the scenes, the ones who keep everything working, even when it seems like it’s all happening effortlessly.
As kids, we read Busytown and discovered how many hidden roles are needed to keep things running smoothly on the surface. Now, as adults, we know real life works the same way. What you don’t see: surprising, adventurous, and often hilarious moments behind the curtain. Here are a few of our recent favourites:
The midnight turkey leg alarm
At 1 a.m., a fire alert came from a dental clinic. There was no fire, but there was plenty of smoke. Turns out a laser hair removal device was being tested… not on a human, but on a store-bought, pre-marinated turkey leg. The meat smoked like a volcano, and the system did exactly what it was supposed to. The protocol worked, the smoke cleared — and the laughter lasted much longer.
The summer pump crisis (rain included)
In the middle of summer, on a rainy Wednesday, the main cooling pump of one of our buildings failed. The model was long out of production, and replacing it would’ve taken 8 weeks. But just 1.5 days later, the problem was solved: we found the last spare in a warehouse in Germany, a friend brought it over on his way home, and we lifted the 200-kg beast up to the 9th-floor machine room using a pulley system.
The tenants noticed nothing. Just as it should be.
A conference table, airlifted to the fifth floor
One of our colleagues recalled a move not so long ago:
When we moved into our new office, we didn’t think about whether the massive conference table would fit in the elevator. It didn’t. We were just about to give up when someone had an idea: if it won’t go through the door, it’ll come in through the window. Our rope-access partner brought in a crane, and we airlifted the table onto the fifth-floor terrace, like something out of an action movie. From there, it just took some muscle, deep breaths, and a few choice words to squeeze it into place. It’s still there today. We’ve moved on. The table? Never.
All this happens backstage, so that our office buildings run smoothly every single day.
To the ConvergenCE technical and facility team: thank you for always being there. Especially when no one notices, because that’s exactly when your work is perfect.
